It’s more appropriate to notice what it doesn’t say rather than what it does state. It doesn’t mention heat at all. Oddly, it does mention in the description that this is in the women’s department for some odd reason.The base is iron but not cast iron. The post is steel as are the support rings and they’re plated. How well it’s plated is beyond the scope of this review. One of the support rings does have a type of a clamp with some sort of gripping plastic or rubber over that. This looks to me that if it got hot, it’d either melt or burn.I don’t think this would last that long with a Bunsen burner. The bottom plate is iron but it’s painted iron. The support rings and posts are steel but plated. If you get that hot by trying to heat a test tube, will the plating burn off? I’m guessing it will. How well will this hold up to usage with non heat but chemicals spilling on it? Remember, the base is painted steel.It does have set screws to hold it in place. The principle is as long as that support arm is naturally hanging from the post, it will angle down slightly. This causes it to stay in place. It’s very handy to move this up or down by simply moving that angle from down to up. It’s also very unhandy if you don’t want it to move and it does.This works well if you never put heat on it and it’s for light use. No way would I take this and put in a classroom setting except for demonstration. It simply won’t hold up.You could use this as a support stand for ornamental purposes but again, there’s probably better options out there to do that. As a support stand, simply to hold objects up, it works well. It could be used to hold some smaller objects up for photographing.
