First off, I have to explain that I have a red miniature dachshund and a white miniature poodle. My sister gave me a metal dachshund sculpture she bought at a craft store in Virginia. I bought "Mini Maddie" as a companion. (See photos.) It is darling. I dug up a clump of wild violets in my yard and got some moss from the woods and instantly had a free plant. It will hold a 4" pot but I think I will just poke holes in the bottom and put the soil directly into the planter so I have more space for the roots. It will stay outside year round so drainage won't be a problem.The head and tail come as separate parts but they fit quickly into their slots. The head also bobbles which I didn't realize. It adds to the cuteness factor. I've had the planter a couple of weeks and I do notice the tiniest beginning of rust since it has rained quite a bit lately here in Georgia. That isn't a problem for me because I really wanted a more "shabby chic" look to go with the rusted dachshund. I've even thought about taking some sandpaper to her and hurrying the process along but I think I'll just let nature take its course. Maybe I'll come back after a year or so and post an updated photo.
